When 365 days is not the same date next year
Adding 365 days lands on the same date one year later only when the span contains no 29 February. If a leap day falls inside it, 365 days lands one day before the anniversary. That is the whole reason anniversaries, birthdays and annual renewals are written as calendar dates rather than as a day count: the calendar handles the leap day, a fixed 365 does not.

Where a rule needs "the last year" to move with the current day rather than reset in January, it is written as a rolling 365-day window: leave entitlement measured backwards from each request, lookback periods for eligibility, twelve-month totals in reporting. Because 365 is not a multiple of seven, the weekday always shifts by one in an ordinary year, and by two across a leap day.
Weekends, holidays and working days
Nothing is skipped here: weekends and public holidays sit inside the count, which is what a plain day count means in almost every contract, notice and policy.
