Why these tools are different
Most free PDF sites upload your file to a server, convert it there, and send back a result, meaning your document, even briefly, sits somewhere you don't control. Every tool on this page (with one clearly-labeled exception) does the opposite: the file is read and processed entirely on your own device using your browser's own capabilities. Once a tool's page has loaded, you can turn on airplane mode and it still works, proof that nothing is being sent anywhere.
The one exception is PDF to Word's optional server mode, up to 25 MB and 50 pages, offered for scanned pages and for complex PDFs a browser alone can't handle reliably. It's opt-in, it only appears after the browser has had its turn, and every other tool, including PDF to Word's default path, never leaves your device.
That also means there's no signup, no daily limit tied to an account, and no watermark added to your results. Each tool is single-purpose and free to use as often as you need.

Each tool has its own limit, generous enough for almost any real document, typically 30-50 MB depending on the tool. PDF to Word also offers an optional server mode, up to 25 MB and 50 pages, for scans and complex files, clearly labeled as the one exception that briefly uses a server.
Do these tools work on mobile?
Yes. They run in any modern browser, including on a phone or tablet, since all the work happens on your own device rather than a server.
