Florida take-home pay calculator

This is the figure before tax, not the amount that lands in your account

Your pay stub calls it gross pay. It is what you are paid before federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare come out of it — Florida takes nothing further out of wages.

Your usual week, not a busy one

Use the hours you work most weeks. Overtime belongs in the overtime calculator instead.

How often are you paid?

It changes the size of each check, not the tax you owe for the year

It only decides how the year is cut up, so the figure you see is the one you would actually receive.

How do you do your taxes?

It moves the income bands, so it changes the tax on the same pay

Tax forms call this your filing status. This estimate assumes one income; if your husband or wife also earns, the real figure is higher than this.

Do customers tip you?

Cash and card tips together, for the whole year.

An hourly rate times your hours never includes tips

If you worked out your pay as a rate times the hours you work, that figure is your wages and nothing else, so your tips are on top of it. A yearly salary from an employer who reports your tips usually already has them in it, and your last payslip is the place to check: if the gross on it is bigger than your rate times your hours, the difference is your reported tips.

Do you get paid extra for working extra hours?

This starts at one and a half times your normal rate, the usual overtime rate. Change it if yours is different, and it stops following.

Do you get a bonus or commission?

Do you, or your husband or wife, turn 65 at any point this year?

Do you put part of your pay into a retirement plan at work?

Look on your pay stub for a line like 401(k), 403(b), 457, TSP, retirement or pension.

Does money come out of your pay for health insurance or a health account?

Look on your pay stub for lines like medical, dental, vision, HSA or FSA.

Do you claim any children or other dependents?

That is $0 of dependent credit for the year. A W-4 counts $2,000 for each child under 17 and $500 for each other dependent.

Did you ask your employer to take extra tax out of each paycheck?

Look on your pay stub for a line like additional or extra withholding. On the W-4 you handed in, it is the box on line 4(c).

If your W-4 shows a per-paycheck amount, multiply it by the number of paychecks you get in a year.

Is anything else taken out of your pay after tax?

Look near the bottom of your pay stub for lines like union dues, life insurance, a repayment or a garnishment.

No state income tax in Florida — so what still shrinks your 2026 paycheck?

Because Florida levies no state income tax, the only deductions on your 2026 paycheck are federal withholding and FICA — no state line at all, which leaves more in your pocket than the same job in a taxing state. Florida's constitution prohibits a personal income tax, and the state funds itself largely through sales tax and tourism-related revenue.

What this estimate doesn't include: City, county or school-district income taxes where they apply, court-ordered deductions, union dues, and anything else your specific employer withholds are not in this figure; your pay stub is the authority on those. No state income tax does not mean no state payroll deductions. Check your stub for state-run leave or disability contributions.

No city or county income tax anywhere in Florida

Florida has no state individual income tax and no local/city income tax. Counties may add a discretionary sales surtax (0.5%–2%) but not an income tax.

Is overtime and tips tax-free in Florida? Federally yes — no Florida wage tax anyway

Qualified overtime premium pay and tips are federally deductible for 2025–2028 (OBBBA caps & rules); FICA still applies.

Two Florida payroll quirks worth knowing

  • Florida has no state income tax, so paychecks carry only federal withholdings — and the state has no employee-side SDI/PFML deductions either.
  • Florida is the only one of these states whose minimum wage rises mid-year on Sep 30 (not Jan 1): it hits $14.00 through Sep 29, 2026 and steps to $15.00 on Sep 30, 2026 under voter-approved Amendment 2.

What Florida levies instead: 6% sales tax and property tax

Sales tax6% (≈7.02% with local)
Property tax≈0.78% — Below the national average (~mid-pack to lower tier); Florida leans on sales tax and tourism revenue rather than income tax.
